Our BMW and Mini diagnostic tools cover most BMW and Mini models to approx 2017 and with the optional 20 pin adapter can cover models back to approx 1994. Some BMW models were equipped with 2 diagnostic plugs, one in the passenger cabin and one in the engine bay. When diagnosing a BMW fitted with the 2 diagnostic plugs, always use the one under the bonnet, the one in the drivers footwell will only access the engine and was fitted to meet the OBD2 standard. These models were manufactured approx 1998 to 2002. Also some of the older BMW models fitted with the bigger petrol engines were OBD2 compliant well before the 2001 requirement. An example was the 3 series E46 328i, this model was OBD2 compliant from 1998 and is fitted with both diagnostic plugs.
we have included a list of OBD2 diagnostic tools which are compatible with BMW and Mini and will read the engine management on OBD2 compliant models. If you need any help choosing the tool for your needs, please contact us
